The 18 year old Composer holding his first composition comments: "La Coza - was my first composition. I had graduated from Buena High School in Sierra Vista, Arizona, and began my studies at the University of Arizona as a Music Composition major. It was written for the freshman theory class and I was accompanied on the piano by my classmate Stephen Burg. Our dear theory teacher Anna Mae Sharp, who was at least 80, was very kind and encouraging, unlike other composition teachers I would soon be meeting over the next four years. I will always fondly remember her for that and will always be very grateful and appreciative for her encouragement and support to a young boy who, although had written under his high school graduation picture that he wanted to be a "Music Composer" had not actually up until this point written one note of actual classical music! Thank you Steve Burg and thank you Anna Mae Sharp."
